Testing for Cardiac and Patellas is as simple as an exam by your veterinarian!
.Go to the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animal) website and print the cardiac application http://www.offa.org/cardappbw.pdf and the patella application http://www.offa.org/plappbw.pdf
.Call and make an appointment with your veterinarian for an examination.
.Remember to take your OFA forms and your AKC registration forms with you so you can complete the forms.
.If your bulldog is not microchipped or does not have a tattoo they will need to be permanently identified before they can be OFA registered. If they are not, make arrangements to have this done while you are at your vet having your examination.
.Discuss with your veterinarian if you are going to pursue doing thyroid, hips or elbows depending on your bulldogs age and situation.
.Mail your OFA forms and fees in to get your bulldog registered in their database.
.If your bulldog has passed both the cardiac and patella, they will automatically become CHIC certified and you will receive the CHIC certificate in the mail when they have been processed. You will also receive the individual certificates for the cardiac and patellas from OFA.
.Please consider participating in the OFA Tracheal Hypoplasia Study and the OFA Spinal Study. These studies are important to the health of Bulldogs and will help OFA in formulating a registry in the future.
